Volunteer with Cherry Tree House Mushrooms

Many of us are browsing seed catalogs at this time of year, but I have already started ordering from my spawn supply catalog.  If you’d like to have a go at mushroom cultivation this year, or would just like to learn more about it, I can give you some pointers.

If you would like to learn more about cultivation, I’d suggest that you look at the cultivation tab on my newly launched website/blog.  The site also describes my farm and includes a mushroom & kit finder and events calender, in which I list dates for workshops on cultivation.  The web address is: www.cherrytreehousemushrooms.com.  Beyond workshops, volunteering with CTHM is a great way to learn about cultivation, and you can get started as soon as February helping me with log inoculations.  Contact me if you are interested in that, or if you’d like to help out as a volunteer or intern during the summer or fall months.

A lot of wood is unsuitable for mushroom cultivation, especially wood that wasn’t just freshly harvested.  For those folks who want to start mushroom logs from scratch, I offer mushroom-grade un-inoculated oak, maple and aspen logs.  For those with less time on their hands, or if you want to speed things up for your first experience, I’d recommend a shiitake or oyster log kit, which I will have for sale at the farmer’s market and on pre-order at Egg|Plant Farm Supply.
