Pest Detection & Management Unit Supervision Position with MN Dept. of Agriculture

The purpose of this position is to supervise the Pest Detection and Management Unit within the Plant Protection Division and assist Division Management in representing the goals and accomplishments of the Unit. This Unit has responsibility to enforce portions of State Statutes 18G and 18J. This position supervises and coordinates the exclusion (achieved by prevention, early detection and rapid response) of new and emerging plant pests that threaten Minnesota’s agricultural, forest or horticultural interests or the general ecological quality of the state in accordance with the State Invasive Species Management Plan and the National Strategy for Invasive Species Management. This position also serves to coordinate Unit activities with other programs within the Department and with other state and federal agencies as well as with interested or appropriate organizations or individuals. Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in, Natural Resources Management, Botany, Weed Science, Agriculture, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Biology, or related fields.
Three years of professional-level experience in biology, botany, entomology, plant pathology or a closely related field.
Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally.
Ability to compose relevant standard operating procedures, policy, guidelines, compliance documents and other documents.
Ability to synthesize knowledge of business, legal and policy guidelines regarding data practices, documents and records management.
Experience working with legal and administrative procedures sufficient to evaluate and solve problems and implement new procedures.
Must possess human relation skills and knowledge sufficient to critique and evaluate the work of staff.
Must possess and maintain an active valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.
Preferred Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree or higher in Natural Resources Management, Botany, Weed Science, Agriculture, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Biology, or related fields.
Supervisory or lead work experience.
