USDA Offers Specialty Crop Multi-State Grant Program (SCMP)

The purpose of the SCMP is to competitively award funds (up to $7 million total available nationwide)….to solely to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops by funding collaborative, multi-state projects that address regional or national level specialty crop issues. Apply by September 25, 2017.

Specific specialty crop issues to be addressed by grant-funded projects:

  • Food safety,
  • Plant pests and disease,
  • Research,
  • Crop-specific projects addressing common issues, and
  • Marketing and promotion


Who:   Projects involve at least two partners in different states.  Partners are encouraged to develop projects that bring together teams to research and develop solutions to practical problems that cross state boundaries and address the needs of specialty crop growers.  Note:  this grant process/RFA is not connected to the annual Specialty Crop Block Grant awards that are administered by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA)


How Much:  Minimum award: $250,000; maximum award: $1,000,000 (no match required)


When: Application due date: 5:00 PM Eastern time on September 25, 2017
