USDA Disaster Assistance Programs Available to Minnesota Farmers

MDA Nutrient Management Initiative

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) invites Minnesota farmers and crop advisers to participate in a unique on-farm nutrient management program that can help water quality while managing production costs. Participants in the Nutrient Management Initiative (NMI) evaluate different nitrogen management practices on their own farms through the use of replicated side-by-side field trials. The deadline is coming up to sign up for Whole Farm Revenue Protection. Feast! Smart Start Initiative Offers Technical Assistance to Local Food Makers & Growers

Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF), recently received a $70,000 grant from Minnesota’s Department of Agriculture (MDA) for a Feast! Smart Start initiative. This grant will provide technical assistance to local food and beverage makers, producers and growers. SMIF, in partnership with the FEAST Local Foods Network, will use these funds to offer trainings and conferences for southern Minnesota food businesses to increase their capacity and growth potential. Farm Service Agency Bridges to Opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) today announced the expansion of a unique service for farmers and ranchers. FSA’s Bridges to Opportunity program provides a one-stop-shop that connects producers with resources, programs and educational services offered across the department, as well as from other USDA partner organizations. USDA-AMS Announces Accreditation Program for Transitional Agricultural Products
